Developer access
Thanks for joining the MediaWiki development community. By doing so, you gain access to two important tools:
- Gerrit is the tool that we use for reviewing code contributions to our Git repositories before merging them into the main branch. You'll need to familiarize yourself with the Git and Gerrit workflow to submit changes.
- Wikimedia Labs is an environment used for staging and testing code and services. You'll get an account on Labs, but you'll need to be added to specific projects before you can do anything there.
The centralized accounts (LDAP) are managed from the Wikimedia Labs console (more information).
You must have an account on this wiki (create one here - a recently-created Wikipedia account or other account on a Wikimedia project would also work here) and be logged in to post a request for an account. To post a request for a developer account, add a comment on this page with:
-
- Preferred Git username - Alphanumeric; will also be your Git commit author name, so your full name or wiki username would be reasonable. This will be permanent, so choose wisely, and leave out things like organization names or other current affiliations.
- Your svn account name if you have one, or if you didn't, your preferred shell username. Shell account names should start with a lower-case letter, followed by 1 to 16 numbers, lower case ASCII letters or - (hyphen-minus) characters. (regex: [a-z_][-a-z0-9]*) Shell account names can be the same as your username, if your username fits these guidelines.
- Did you previously have a svn.wikimedia.org account? (Yes/No)
- Your preferred email address This must be an email address. (not
[[special:emailuser]]
!) Your email address will be easily accessible to (and not obfuscated) all other labs users.
And then someone with the relevant privileges will create an account for you. Check back here to see whether it's been done, then do your initial login.
If you don't want to post a public request, you can privately email User:Sumanah and give her the information above to get an account, but it will take longer.
By requesting an account in Labs, you are agreeing to the Labs terms of service.
Prior to March 2012, Wikimedia used Subversion as its version control system. The commit access process for Subversion is archived here: Developer access/Subversion

My intention is to lobby for a roll back https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/25412/ so that the bugs introduced by the deliberate removal of feature is reversed.--Kitchen Knife (talk) 21:42, 22 October 2012 (UTC)--Irate (talk) 21:39, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

- Hi, Irate, also known as Kitchen Knife. Your shell username cannot include spaces and all the letters have to be lowercase. May I suggest "kitchenknif"? Thanks. Sharihareswara (WMF) (talk) 22:10, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

I'm developing a small set of friendly web interfaces around the Gerrit JSON-RPC API, and I'd like a separate account to use for accessing it. It should have the standard permission level for new users. My personal Gerrit username is ori.livneh. If there are specific naming conventions for non-human Gerrit accounts, feel free to override my preferences and choose a different set of usernames. Thanks!

Not done It looks like this was a duplicate request, as labs:User:Malkum was created 3 days ago. siebrand (talk) 06:11, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
