Computer Services Spend - Monthly Growth

Prior to the 2009/10 recession, computer services spend grew at an average monthly rate of 9%.  During the recessionary period expenditure advancement was negative between April 2009 and May 2010 reaching a low point of -15% in January 2010.  Since the end of the recession, growth has averaged out at 6% with notably weaker growths in more recent months.

IT Hardware Spend - Research & Development

Hardware spend per employee is significantly greater for larger concerns in Research & Development than for all UK organisations.  In the case of medium companies (100-999 employees) it is greater by a multiple of 2.5.

Software Spend - Machinery & Equipment Manufacture

Across all sizes of Machinery & Equipment Manufacturers, internal software staff expenditure exceeds that of external software.  It is particularly striking for firms with 100+ employees where the internal spend is a factor of 4 greater.

Telecom Services Spend - Paper Manufacture

Large (1000+ employees) Paper Manufacturers spend over £500 per employee on telecom services.  This is 30% more than all Manufacturers.  The difference reduces with size of organisation such that Paper Manufacturers with under 50 staff spend less than the all Manufacturers norm.

Medium sized (100-999 employees) Management Consultancies spend £1,500 per staff member on computer services.  This is a 50% more than other Business Services of comparable size.  It is also 15% more than the largest Management Consultant firms.

Waste Management companies spend on hardware is much greater than the national norm.  This is particularly so with medium sized firms (100-999 employees) where spend per head is larger by a factor of 3.5.

IT Staff Costs - Art, Entertainment & Recreation

Large Art, Entertainment & Recreation organisations (1000+ employees) spend £1500 per employee on IT staff.  This is 15% less than medium sized concerns (100-999 employees).  Both spend 10% less than the rest of the Community & Personal Services sector.

Aerospace companies across all employee size bands spend more per head on computer services than all of Manufacturing.  It is most pronounced with large organisations (1000+ employees) where Aerospace outlay is over twice the norm.
