Lattice Engines is a cloud-based Big Data company specializing in predictive analytics technology for sales and marketing departments in enterprise business-to-business (B2B) companies. The company is privately held with headquarters in San Mateo, CA and offices in Austin, Boston, New York and Beijing.[1] The company is backed by NEA[disambiguation needed] and Sequoia Capital.[2]

The company was founded by Shashi Upadhyay, Kent McCormick and Andrew Schwartz in 2006.[3] Upadhyay currently serves as the company’s CEO, McCormick currently serves as the president and Schwartz currently serves as the chief architect.

With a solid background in advanced analytics, and years of experience advising Fortune 500 companies on Sales & Marketing problems, Shashi was positioned to start Lattice. After graduating from the Indian Institute of Technology, Shashi went on to get a Ph.D. in physics from Cornell University and then worked at McKinsey & Company, serving global companies on sales and marketing problems. He left as a partner to start Lattice because he saw a large unfulfilled need – CRM was designed to help sales managers, but no one was helping the front-line reps be more successful.

He was convinced that a cloud-based solution that could use “all the data in the world” to generate insights for sales reps, would help them be more effective and make their job more fun. In 2006, when it was clear that the technology pieces were in place with both the cloud and Big Data taking off, he decided it was time to pursue this opportunity to impact the work-life of tens of thousands of frontline sellers and marketers.

Kent McCormick (from EMC) and Andrew Schwartz (from Profitlogic, Algorithmics) joined Shashi as cofounders. The company was originally founded as a sales effectiveness consultancy and its product was first delivered in 2009.[4]

Today there are more than 140 employees with headquarters in San Mateo and offices in Austin, Boston, New York City and Beijing and over 50,000 users in over 25 countries. You can learn more about the history of the company on its website.

Lattice offers a Big Data analytics platform, which provides users with intelligent sales targeting, combining internal and external date with proprietary data the company has collected; talking points; and highly specific sales campaigns known as plays, according to ZDNet's Paul Greenberg [5]

Lattice has more than 50,000 active sales and marketing professionals using its product from companies including Dell, HP, Microsoft, Wolters Kluwer, Staples, SunTrust and EMC.[6]

In 2012 Lattice was named to Deloitte’s 2012 Technology Fast 500,[7] Best in Biz Enterprise Product of the Year, American Business Awards (Stevies) Most Innovative Technology Company of the Year[8] and CRM Rising Star.[9] In 2012 and 2011 Lattice was named an OnDemand Top 100 Private Company.[10] In 2010 Lattice was ranked 120th on the Inc. 500 [11] list of fastest growing private companies.

The company was profiled in McKinsey’s book titled “Sales Growth” for being a thought-leader.[12]

In April 2013, Lattice was named a "Cool Vendor" by leading analyst firm, Gartner, in its report on CRM and sales technology. [13]
