Game Development Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for professional and independent game developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

This is my first time posting on stack exchange. I have been programming and generally messing with computers since I was a kid, but now I find myself with a really great idea for a game which I would like to prototype. I have never done any game design before, however I have friends who can help me and the interest to learn how. For now though I just want a little proof of concept.

I need to find an engine where I can easily make an isometric tactical RPG (think Tactics Ogre), with little to no prior knowledge of design. I am aware that this is going to take a very long time even to prototype and that it will be very difficult, but I believe I have the programming skill and motivation to do it. I would appreciate a little push in the right direction, and also any advice in general.

Thank you

Your questions are totally valid for someone just starting, however, they're not a good fit for this site. "Where to get started" and "which technology to use" questions are considered off topic per the FAQ. Have a look at the FAQ and you'll find some sites that are more geared towards discussion oriented questions, as well as some getting started guides. Good luck! You have a lot of fun ahead of you. – Byte56 Feb 7 at 16:27
