I have downloaded the file - "win32_11gR2_database_1of2.zip" from oracle site.

While installing Oracle 11g, I find this window in the first place:

What to do?

What values should I put on the dialog box?

Where can I get the related info very concisely?

Which OS you are using? If you're using Windows, you can obtain the correct proxy settings in the Browser Settings on the Connections tab. If you're using Unix-like OS, the proxy settings are usually set in HTTP_PROXY environment variable, in this case just say echo $HTTP_PROXY to display value on the console, or an identical command for your command-line shell. Though the easiest way is to ask your systems administrator about the proxy settings. – Yasir Arsanukaev Apr 19 at 6:49
I have already said I am using Win7 Ultimate Edition. What are you talking about? Where is Connections tab? Where is Browser Settings? Which browser? – BROY Apr 19 at 7:08

Are you in a corporate environment? There may be a firewall which is only allowing HTTP traffic to certain sites or statefully inspecting HTTP headers such as User-Agent and only allowing your corporate-installed browser. – Colin 't Hart Apr 19 at 8:21

Your problem is almost certainly that you are entering an email address into the installer to receive information about updates. However this functionality will only work correctly if you also have a valid Oracle Support account.

Since you are in a home environment, I would leave the email address empty. The installer should then proceed without generating any HTTP requests to Oracle's servers.

You will however also have to download win32_11gR2_database_2of2.zip separately and unzip that into the same directory.

You do not use a proxy, you likely have a network problem that prevents connection to the internet or a general lack of networking knowledge. I would suggest you try some ping tests to establish connectivity and take your problem to a networking forum.

If I was not able to use the Internet, how am I able to post questions here? I am using the Internet seamlessly. Then why is the Oracle 11g setup unable to connect to the Internet? – BROY Apr 19 at 8:04
