I have SQL Server, ArcGIS Server Standard Enterprise 10.0 - and I am new to both. How can I learn to use it. I want to learn ArcSDE but i am unable to understand it.

Is ArcSDE available with ArcGIS Server Standard Enterprise? I am unaware of license issues.

I feel this question, as it stands, is just too broad. ArcGIS server itself is a vast topic, and if you include SDE, then they are humongous software, with a variety of configurations. Most of us take a long time to master a software, and by that time a new version comes out, which deals most of that knowledge obsolete. I would suggest that you start with the online help, and if possible do a session or two of ESRI's training modules. – Devdatta Tengshe Apr 24 at 8:38
According to the your licensing(Standard Enterprise level) its available and you need to check the license file i.e. keycode file. I would recommend starting with the Online Help for ArcGIS Server 10.0 - I have assumed you are working with .NET.

Whenever I am picking up a new piece of software I will usually try to skip that and see what I can do intuitively first but inevitably it is only be reading and re-reading relevant parts of the documentation that I start to understand how it has been designed to operate.

Once you have opened the box and tried to follow the instructions you will be able to describe what you tried and where the observed behaviour of the software started to deviate from what you would expect having read its documentation.

thanks for the reply. For everyone, let me clarify the question again.I konw how to work in arcgis desktop. I am new to dot net. I want to store my shapefiles in a database so that i can access it from anywhere in the organization. Now the problem is that ARCSDE is not working may be due to license issue.Please help – Uma joshi Apr 30 at 9:20
The community would love to help but what we will need you to do is to follow the advice provided when your question was closed so that it can be improved and hopefully re-opened. Rather than just saying "ARCSDE is not working", can you describe any errors or other symptoms that you are seeing?
