MakBot
I know that some folks may not want their watchlist flooded by messages from a bot whose activities they already well understand. MakBot is a bot currently doing the adjective placename switch to noun form. I am applying for a bot flag so that people may have the option of screening out its edits ( I project 60-100K edits in the coming weeks). The bot code has already done several dozen runs on my personal account on commons, as well as on a local community wiki site I run that uses wikimedia software. I understand the damage these little monsters can do and test my stuff pretty well before turning it loose. I expect this bot will lapse into a period of inactivity after this task and be employed on an intermittent basis. I am a big fan of hand editing, but have no fondness for tedious edits.
My self imposed restrictions for this bot:
- Prior two week announcements on affected pages for potentially controversial changes.
- Mention of any large runs of note in Village pump.
- Server loading issues- Treading lightly
- 8-14 second delays between writes.
- delaying runs if server loading appears to be high, or that maintenance tasks appear to be going on.
- Schemes and a period of discussion and establishing concensus for anything major
- Maintain a list of upcoming runs of any significance on the MakBot page.
- For anything big, prior trial runs followed by days of waiting for complaints in order to flush out any unexposed issues or errors in the bot.
- Accurate messages for an edit with links for ease of monitoring the bot's activities.
- The bot will not be used for Edits that have not been vetted with the above mentioned process.
This shall not be a request Bot. If I had more time, I would volunteer, but Commons appears to be well served in this respect by more selfless and efficient folks like Orgullobot. Of course MakBot shall be front and center in case of a community emergency of some sort.

I don't understand some changes like this. Why did he move interwikis above categories? I have always done a category move with replace.py module, and the re-order of the page is unnecessary. --Emijrp 16:08, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Standard Pywikipedia behavior. You may log a bug or send mail to the Pywikipedia Bot list if you wish. -Mak 17:08, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
