Data Centre 2.0 – ‘the first real, notable example’

We’re delighted at Colt to be able to share with you a report by Jason Schafer of the 451 Group that details the selection of the Colt Modular Data Centre for Verne Global’s new facility in Iceland. Along with other analysts and journalists, Jason was invited to tour the facility last month.

There were several key areas that he found to be innovative:  firstly how quickly we could deliver. Secondly, that we had incredible ‘attention to detail’ when it came to the design and implementation of the product.  That it was a singularly designed piece that avoided the pitfalls that having multiple contractors creates and lastly the ‘material reduction’ in deployment cost that saved Verne Global money. Vernes challenges, Mr Schafer points out, are faced by virtually every company building a data centre.
 
It’s also true that geography did play a part. US customers have different data centre requirements to those in Europe and we were best placed to deliver a Euro-centric product. That said, Mr Schafer also notes that modularity also offers the opportunity to ‘ship anywhere’. We made some modifications for Verne Global's campus to suit the Icelandic environment. We can extend those customisations to most environments and customer requirements due to the modular nature.

All of these factors were crucial to Verne Global in making their decision to purchase our product and it’s a testament to the team here that we delivered, met and surpassed their expectations. That this delivery now has recognition from independent analysts is both a vindication of our approach and an incentive to take our modular data centre offering even further than before.

This is frontier technology for a cost-conscious, energy-efficient age and I’m proud to be part of it.
