Forefront didn't change antivirus settings in sharepoint central admin

-
Dears
Our farm has 1 SQL server, 1 application (hosting central admin) and 1 web front end servers. After installing Forefront on the web front end server I went to the Sharepoint central admin site under security, under managing antivirus settings I found that none of the check boxes are checked. Scan on download and scan on upload none of these settings were enabled. Forefront should have changed these settings automatically after installation right? should I have seen all these checkboxes checked?
Well I couldn't check them my self with the Forefront service account for not having enough permissions. (Although this service account was added to the sharepoint administrators group within sharepoint central administration). so I had to ask another sharepoint admin to enable these settings and when he did the site simply crashed. Disable them the site operates perfectly again.
Can you guys help me with this?

Which Forefront product and version did you install? Which version and edition of SharePoint is the farm?
Some references that may help: Installing Forefront protection for SharePoint and MOSS and Installing Forefront Security for SharePoint

Jason,
Thank you for replying, It's Forefront protection for Sharepoint 2010. The Sharepoint is 2010 enterprise edition.
And Installing Forefront protection for SharePoint and MOSS was the guide I followed plus others of course.
Thanks

Hi,
Thank you for the post.
How do you configure the settings on FPSP console? Have you followed this best practice article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff518400.aspx?

Hi Nick,
Appreciate your help.
I didn't yet get to the point of configuring FPSP, I know that after the Installation of FPSP the antivirus settings on the central administration changes. Like for example I should see 10 antivirus threads instead of 5. also antivirus time-out should be 600 instead of the default 300. So what I am asking about how come the FPSP installation didn't change these values? does this mean the installation wasn't done right?
one more thing is that the site crashes if I turned on the scan on upload and scan on download check boxes.

Hi,
Thank you for the update.
Please check if there is third-party file-level antivirus program on a server, if have, you must ensure that the following program folders are not scanned:
1.The folder into which you installed FPSP.
2.The folder in which you installed Microsoft SharePoint Server.
And to verify your deployment, you may use the EICAR test file as per this link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd639420.aspx
