Onboard Audio WMS 2012

My understanding is that with WMS 2011, you can use a PS2 Mouse and Keyboard along with onboard Audio to create a session. With my evaluation copy of WMS 2012, the onboard Audio (VIA 1708S on an asus P8B75-M/CSM) driver is disabled in both console and normal mode. If I enable it in the device manager, everything seems to work but it doesn't stick. It will be disabled again if I log off and log back on. I've updated my drivers from the Microsoft HD Audio to Via generic (can't get the asus setup to work). The Audio services are running fine (set to Automatic).
I realize an alternative is to use a usb hub (with keyboard, mouse and audio) and then map it to the built in video. Also, this method is the only way to have other usb devices that would be private to that station (like a USB stick), correct?

By default in WMS 2012, every time WMS starts in station mode, the WMSShell will disable the motherboard system audio.
This as based on feedback that in a multi user environment, the expectation is that people who use audio expect the audio to be private to their station. When the play audio, they do not want it to go out the "public" audio on the main computer's motherboard.
If you do have a scenario where you don't want the motherboard audio disabled at startup, you can set this reg key:
“HKLM\software\microsoft\windows multipoint server”
DWORD DisableSystemAudioDevices = 0
If it exists and is set to 0, system audio devices will not be disabled by Wms Shell at start up. NOTE: What ever state audio was in, will stick at system startup. e.g. if you disabled audio previously, even if you set this reg key to 0, it will still disabled unless you had sometime previously enabled audio. e.g.
Thru device manager, enable audio, set the reg key so that DisableSystemAudioDevices is 0, then reboot. If it does not exist or is set to 1, system audio devices will be disabled each time WMS shell starts.

Thank you for your reply. I tried adding the registry key and as expected, the motherboard system audio wasn't disabled and, as a result, the audio was available (and the default no less) to all stations which isn't what I want.
According to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/wms-2011-station-components.aspx (just below Figure 1) and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2556903 it would seem that WMS 2011 supports using PS2 keyboard/mouse with onboard audio as a station. That's the scenario I was hoping would work that I can't replicate using WMS 2012.
Note, my motherboard does have 2 onboard audio devices, the second for hdmi, both which are disabled. I wonder if that might be the source of the issues like in the KB above for WMS 2011.

WMS 2012 should not be changed from WMS 2011 in regards to being able to use a motherboard PS/2 keyboard and mouse for a "local station".
If WMS detects PS2 keyboard and mice jacks it should create a PS2 station hub and assign the HD audio devices to it.
I would try enabling the HDMI audio and seeing if that works.

After removing the registry key, I tried disabling one or both of the Intel Display Audio and the HD Audio in all three combinations. When I restart the machine in station mode, both always get disabled.

Hi Phil,
Hmm, I am trying to understand what might be wrong. Just want to verify steps you are doing to see if I can spot anything...
Are you able to create a "PS/2 station" successfully?
Try this:
Map the PS/2 station.
Enable the audio device on that station.
Set the regkey to not disable audio at wmsshell start up.
Reboot.
Log on to the PS station.
Is the audio enabled?
Is it private to the PS2 station or global?

I am able to create the PS/2 station successfully. This is what I've done with and without the registry key.
1) Remap all stations in multipoint Manager
2) Hit B on my PS2 keyboard and log in
3) In the device manager Enable "High Definition Audio Device" and "Intel(R) Display Audio" (note, I've also tried leaving the Intel(R) Display Audio disabled)
4) As a result of this, on all stations, in the playback devices of the Sound control panel item, Speakers and Digital Audio (HDMI) show up.
5) I make Speakers the default on the PS2 station, test it and it works.
6) Add the registry key above
7) Reboot.
With step 6, PS2 station has sound (there are 2 playback devices, Speakers (default) and Digital Audio(HDMI)) and in the device manager the 2 items in step 3) are enabled. However, those 2 playback devices are available to all stations.
Without step 6, PS2 station has no sound (no playback devices at all), in the device manager, the 2 items in step 3) are disabled.

Sorry to post this question here.
I am running into an issue with Multipoint Server 2011. The issue revolves around bypassing the web limiting. If you drag the Favicon from any website and place it on the desktop; this shortcut bypasses the web limiting and allows the user to browse any website. Is there a solution to this problem? Thanks.

Nash2013, sounds like a serious issue, I would create a new thread about it as it has nothing to do with onboard audio and direct connect stations.
