If you check my jsFiddle, you can see the buttons are not sticking to each other with 1px border width, but 2px.

Here's a jsFiddle showing my problem.

I found the solution while describing it!

My solution was to trim the right border:

.window#shift .header .buttons :not(:last-child){
   border-right:none;
}
