Share photos, links, and more

The Share charm is a quick way to share files and info with people you know and to send info to other apps. It's available anywhere in Windows, so you don't have to stop what you're doing to share things like the latest vacation photos or a link to an article you’re reading. You can share with just a few people at a time, update your entire social network, or send info to another app to refer to later.

When you come across something you want to share in one of your apps, here's how to use the Share charm:

Share a link

  1. Open an app and browse to the website, article, or map you want to share.
  2. Open the Share charm by doing one of the following:
    • Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Share.
    • Press the Share key on Touch Cover or Type Cover.
    • If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Share.
  3. Tap or click the person, app, or device you want to share with, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Notes

Share photos

You can share in different ways from the Photos app.

Share with Mail

  1. From the Photos app, select the photos you want to share.
  2. Open the Share charm and tap or click Mail.

A new mail message will open. You can send the files as attachments, or you can use SkyDrive to share them. If you use SkyDrive, recipients will get an email with a preview of your photos. When they tap or click the preview, a slide show of all the photos will open on SkyDrive.com. Only people who receive the mail (or are forwarded the mail) will be able to view and download the full sizes of your photos from SkyDrive.

For more info, see What's the difference between SkyDrive attachments and regular attachments?

You can use the Photos app to share your photos on your favorite websites, like Facebook or Flickr.

Select the photos you want to share, open the Share charm, and then tap or click People.

If you haven't connected your favorite sites, you'll see a message to go take care of that in the People app. After you've connected your websites, you'll be able to post photos to them right from the Photos app.
