Christmas is fast approaching, and if you’re anything like me, you have some shopping to do.
Some of you may be considering buying a new mobile phone as a gift for yourself or someone on your list. There are so many cool new options out there to choose from (including some great Windows Phone 8 devices—hint, hint) but for those with a car that has an in-car connectivity system, like Ford SYNC, one important consideration will be whether the new device is compatible with your car.

This month, we marked the 5th anniversary of Ford SYNC and 5 million SYNC-equipped vehicles on the road. This is a major milestone for both companies and the technology, so needless to say, we’ve been celebrating a bit!
The old saying goes, “it takes a village to raise a child.” The same goes for creating an industry leading in-car technology like SYNC. At the Seattle Auto show this month, we brought in our connected car team within Windows Embedded to celebrate our partnership and milestones with Ford. More than 100 of our engineers were on hand, along with Ford's Director of Electrical and Electronics Systems Jim Buczkowski. And of course, there was cake—the only way to celebrate right.
We’ve also been enjoying SYNC’s success with Ford fans across the country! We recently held a sweepstakes on Twitter giving people an opportunity to win an Xbox 360 with Kinect by tweeting about their favorite SYNC feature. Here’s what you had to say about what you like best about SYNC:
You love the music features SYNC offers, especially the ability to stream apps like Pandora. And it doesn’t hurt that you can do it all by voice!
Ford SYNC powered by Microsoft is celebrating its 5th anniversary as a pioneer in vehicle connectivity system. Help us wish Ford SYNC a happy anniversary by tweeting your favorite SYNC feature and you could win an Xbox 360 with Kinect.
To celebrate this momentous milestone, Ford and Microsoft are participating in GigaOm Roadmap in San Francisco and the Seattle Auto Show, during which SYNC fans will be given the opportunity to enter our twitter contest to win one of five Xbox 360 with Kinect consoles. The contest kicks off today (now!) and you have two weeks to participate for the chance to win.
It’s easy to participate, whether you are able to attend either event or not. All you have to do is follow @MSFTWEB and tweet your favorite Ford SYNC feature some time during the two-week period using the #SYNC5 hash tag. We will announce the winners on Sunday, November 18, 2012 between 5 and 6 pm PT.
That’s all I have to do to win an Xbox 360?! You bet, easy as pie, or if you prefer, anniversary cake.
Believe it or not, Joel McHale, Ryan Seacrest and I have more in common than just our dashing good looks. We’re all part of Ford’s Random Acts of Fusion campaign promoting the all-new 2013 Ford Fusion.
Ford recently held a contest to bring one lucky person to Joel’s hometown of Seattle to see all the sites. The winner, Kristina from Stillman Valley, Illinois, cruised around the Emerald City in a new Fusion and even got a behind the scenes tour of Microsoft—Ford’s technology partner in developing Ford SYNC. I was on-hand to welcome Kristina and her friend to our campus, show off our fabled Garage and show them the some of the main benefits of Ford SYNC, on a bright and sunny day—clearly it doesn’t rain here all the time.

Recently, I joined our partners at Ford for the European launch of Ford SYNC with MyFord Touch at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin.
At IFA Ford announced that this version of Ford SYNC—which includes a touchscreen interface—will be coming to Europe in 2013 in the Ford Focus Electric.
While I was at the conference I participated in a roundtable discussion with Ford and a few other industry experts to discuss the future of the connected car. The connected car focuses on how the vehicle experience can be enhanced when you integrate internet connectivity, data, and new user interface technologies like speech and touch.
The subject of the connected car is especially near and dear to us in Windows Embedded – and not only because Ford SYNC is built on the Windows Embedded Automotive software platform. When we talk about intelligent systems as the evolution of the embedded device market, it’s exciting to see how this is affecting the automotive industry.
