  • Which .NET Framework version are you trying to install on each OS?

As Windows 7 and Windows XP are very different, we will need to treat this as two separate issues.

For Windows 7, if you are trying to install .NET Framework 3.5, you cannot because .NET Framework 3.5.1 (which is .NET 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 plus all patches through 3.5 SP1 come embedded in the OS.

For Windows XP, first make sure the OS is fully patched up to date, including SP3 for Windows XP. Then run this standalone installer:

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe

If the install fails, provide complete install logs as follows:

Please collect your install logs with this:

    http://aka.ms/vscollect

After you run Collect.exe, you'll find vslogs.cab in your %temp% directory. Please upload vslogs.cab to a public site, like SkyDrive, and post the link here.

  • i want to run www.gaitobot.de which need's dot net framework 3.5 sp1 to be installed, if i installed 4.0 it will not work , i am using windows 7
    Monday, March 04, 2013 5:08 PM
  • That's because 4.0 is separate and distinct from 2.0/3.0/3.5. 4.0 cannot substitute for 3.5.

If you app requires 3.5 SP1, then it should work fine on Windows 7 with no .NET Framework installation required. Unless, of course, there is an issue with your embedded 3.5.

To check your 3.5, use this tool:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx

Run the tool with .NET 3.5 selected, then post the first 15 lines AND the LAST 15 lines of the tool log here.

If the tool reveals issues with the embedded framework, this is the technique needed for repair:

  • Please show us the result of using the verification tool as requested:

"To check your 3.5, use this tool:

The output from the tool log is needed for further suggestions.

  • Hello LuizCanto.

According to the verification results you posted, there is no problem with your embedded .NET 3.5.1.

"Verification succeeded for product .NET Framework 3.5 SP1"

What issues do you have that make you think your .NET Framework 3.5.1 is not working correctly?
