The BizTalk Server 2010 AppFabric Connect feature accommodates development of WF applications that can communicate directly with Line of Business (LOB) systems. The AppFabric Connect feature provides WF developers access to both the BizTalk Mapper and the BizTalk Adapter Pack 2010. Utilizing BizTalk Server 2010 functionality from a WF application hosted in IIS rather than from a BizTalk Server application running in a BizTalk Server host instance provides flexibility for WF developers that may not want or need other BizTalk Server functionality. This approach also maximizes the use of available resources at runtime since the overhead required to run WF applications hosted in IIS is significantly less than the overhead required to run applications hosted in the BizTalk Server runtime. Windows Server AppFabric provides management, monitoring, troubleshooting, and persistence for WF applications which makes this an ideal "middle ground" platform for performing many tasks that were previously only available "out of the box" with a fully configured installation of BizTalk Server. This guide provides information for installing the BizTalk Server 2010 AppFabric Connect feature.
Installation requirements vary depending on whether the AppFabric Connect feature is installed on a developer computer or on a runtime computer. This section describes the installation requirements for installing the AppFabric Connect feature on a developer computer.

Hi trace - the LOB adapters bits don't need the runtime, it's only the mapper that does. Could warrant and update to the article?

Hi,
Is it possible to install AppFabric Connect on a server that does not have BizTalk Server installed and configured? I was under the impression that installing the following components would be sufficient
- Server Runtime
- WCF LOB Adapter SDK
- BizTalk Adapter Pack
- BizTalk Adapters for Enterprise Applications
However, having tried this out it does not appear to be possible. Have I missed something?
Many thanks,
Colin
