Come and join fellow SQL Server and Oracle professionals and enthusiasts in a new and  unique PASS Virtual Chapter, where members come together to discuss and resolve issues related  to SQL Server and Oracle.

 

 

We have meetings on the second Wednesday of every month.  In an ongoing attempt to make the content presented useful to our members we start each meeting with a short Q&A session.  Unless noted in the meeting notes the schedule for each meeting will be:

11:50 - 12:00 - Question & Answer session

 

From the comfort  of your desktop, you are able to join other SQL Server / Oracle enthusiasts that meet within this virtual forum  to resolve issues pertinent to their daily work lives and/or to learn from the myriad of people who merely enjoy relating  what they know, to others.
What are our goals?  To provide a conducive environment where through the use of online webinars( from both the SQL Server and Oracle Camps), web based  articles and cross product/ cross pollination of concepts and ideas, our members are  able to prosper and to pass the knowledge on to others.

Speaker: Kellyn Pot'Vin  

 

  Kellyn Pot'Vin is an Oracle ACE Director and Sr. Technical Consultant for Enkitec, managing Oracle, SQL Server and MySQL. She specializes in environment optimization tuning and creating systems that are robust and enterprise level. Kellyn works almost exclusively on mult-TB size databases, including Exadata and databases with driven performance involving solid state disk solutions. Kellyn is deeply involved in the Oracle User Group Community, speaking at conferences around the world.  She is the author of a number of technical books on both Oracle and SQL Server, blogs at http://dbakevlar.com and can be found on Twitter @DBAKevlar.  She also heads up RMOUG and ODTUG's WIT, (Women in Technology) groups, mentoring fellow women in technical fields.

Exadata and the Added Challenges for the Remote DBA

 

 
 


Although there are a number of differences in the technology that a MSSQL DBA manages vs. an Oracle DBA, a major one has to do with engineered systems such as Exadata.  This session will discuss the challenges and demands on a remote Oracle DBA in an engineered system world. 

Webinar attendees will be introduced to:

-  Basic challenges of a remote DBA of a Linux OS and engineered components.

-  Automatic Storage Management, (ASM) it's power and challenges.

 

-  Basic Exadata features, specs and performance
-  Day to day management and administration.
