Using TortoiseSVN with CodePlex

  1. If you do not already have TortoiseSVN installed, you can download it here: http://tortoisesvn.net/downloads
  2. Go to the Source Control tab of the CodePlex project and make a note of the "Subversion URL"
  3. Open Windows Explorer
  4. Create a new folder where you want to download the source code of the CodePlex project
  5. Right click on the new folder and select "SVN Checkout..."
  6. In the "URL of repository" field enter the Subversion URL. Example: https://svnbridge.svn.codeplex.com/svn
  7. Click OK on the SVN Checkout screen to start downloading the source code files for the project.

If you have any trouble using TortoiseSVN with CodePlex you can contact support using our Contact Us form.

Has anyone some information abot this "XML parsing failed: (400 Bad Request)" issue?
With the current TortoiseSVN (Version 1.8.0) there seems to be a problem.

ME too. I got this message:
- Checkout from https://compositec1.svn.codeplex.com/svn, revision HEAD, Fully recursive, Externals included
- XML parsing failed: (400 Bad Request)

mdesalvo Jun 20 at 6:37 PM
I downloaded TORTOISE-SVN 1.8.0 and it is not able to connect to the Codeplex bridge, failing a checkout request with a "400 BAD REQUEST" error.

A few udates would be useful:
point 2 should read "Go to the SOURCE CODE tab and click on CONNECT to view the subversion URL"

Hi
I m getting following while check out through SVN,
Please advice

Error: OPTIONS of 'https://tamilanda.svn.codeplex.com/svn': could not connect to
Error: server (https://tamilanda.svn.codeplex.com)

krunal83 Feb 13 at 5:05 AM
Where can I find the SVN url for a project? I need SVN URL of nopCommerce project http://nopcommerce.codeplex.com/. But I didn't find SVN url anywhere nor the connections instruction as someone mentioned on comments here....

Why it's so difficult to use CodePlex? Is it by design that SVN links are so difficult to find?

To 'upload' files using as SVN:
-Create an empty folder
-Right-click the folder and choose 'SVN Checkout'
-Enter your credentials
-Copy the files to be uploaded into newly created folder
-Right-click the new folder (or files) and choose 'TortoiseSVN > Add
-Right-click same folder and Choose 'SVN Commit'

I hope that helps :)

i have this error
OPTIONS of 'https://refateid.svn.codeplex.com/svn': could not connect to server (https://refateid.svn.codeplex.com)'

OliIsCool Sep 28, 2012 at 3:19 PM
The sentence with the link that leads to this page (in the pop-up that ensues when clicking on "Connect") reads:

"For more information on connecting to CodePlex projects using Team Foundataion Server or Subversion, please see these instructions."

Notice the typo in "Foundation": Foundataion

Server sent unexpected return value (200 OK) in response to MKACTIVITY request ?

TortoiseSVN does not appear to be supported any longer. Would be nice if this would be documented. Currently many links still instruct users to download it. Pretty bad.

B"H

Just created a fork of FacebookSDK at http://facebooksdk.codeplex.com/SourceControl/network/Forks/RabbiPlotkin/FacebookSDK613 but I can not find the SVN url anywhere.
I see the link to get the Mercurial URL but not the SVN url.

Thanks

"Error: REPORT of '/svn/!svn/vcc/default': 200 OK (https://zwaveapi.svn.codeplex.com) "

IanWright83 Jul 6, 2010 at 11:37 AM
I get an error "The OPTIONS response did not include the requested activity-collection-set. this often means that the URL is not WebDAV-enabled.)"

Anyone know how to fix this? Using TortoiseSVN

go2win Apr 16, 2010 at 8:13 AM
To:sytan, for the "SVN Options" error

Check you proxy settings in TortoiseSVN->Settings->Network.
Maybe they are configured differently than in your web browser.

eazel7 Mar 28, 2010 at 4:12 PM
I suggest to use AnkhSVN in combination with TortoiseSVN
It adds a Source Control provider to Visual Studio you can track changes using the Visual Studio
And it works great

Borgdylan Jan 24, 2010 at 6:17 PM
what is the import method?

papuccino1 Jan 3, 2010 at 8:26 PM
KGooding, you have to use the IMPORT method.

I'm unable to do an initial add with TortoiseSVN 1.6, does anyone have any good instructions on pushing your project for the first time? I've tried multiple scenarios and it seems I get a Access Denied error when it seems close to working. Help or advice would be much appreciated.

donkitchen Nov 13, 2009 at 6:08 PM
Still trying to figure out how to do the initial PUT for new projects. Any solution to this?

strattonn Sep 25, 2009 at 1:51 PM
You will see the svn URL when you click on the Connection Instructions in the Source Code tab.

rgrig Aug 26, 2009 at 5:39 PM
There's no "Subversion URL" in the Source Code tab. And I see no Source Control tab. In fact, this is the only place where I was able to find an svn url (as the example in step 6) on this website.

I get the following error when I try to check out https://slextensions.svn.codeplex.com/svn/branches/SL3 with TortoiseSVN: 'Svndiff contains a too-large window'
Any clue? Can't find hardly any information about this error.

How to upload file onto CodePlex for the first time?

sytan Apr 30, 2009 at 2:22 AM
I tried to checkout souce from https://dotnetnuke.svn.codeplex.com/svn but failed due to "Options of 'https://dotnetnuke.svn.codeplex.com/svn': could not connect to server (https://dotnetnuke.svn.codeplex.com)".
Is this repository valid?

jwanagel Apr 16, 2009 at 6:11 PM
Here's a link to the TortoiseSVN documentation: http://tortoisesvn.net/docs/release/TortoiseSVN_en/index.html

Specifically read the section "Committing your Changes to the Repository": http://tortoisesvn.net/docs/release/TortoiseSVN_en/tsvn-dug-commit.html

BuckWoody Apr 15, 2009 at 3:07 PM
How do you add the initial files? I have tortoisesvn installed and I have a project, but there's no "sync" or "upload" commands....

madskristensen Apr 13, 2009 at 1:12 PM
It works great for checkouts and commits but have never worked with update. That makes it more or less useless, because you need to do a full checkout every time a team member commits code.

CodePlexAdmin Mar 30, 2009 at 7:48 PM
That project doesn't have anything checked into Source Control.

bsnote Mar 30, 2009 at 1:27 PM
I can't download the source code. "SVN Checkout..." works but it doesn't download source code, it simply shows:

Checkout from https://smartclient.svn.codeplex.com/svn, revision HEAD, Fully recursive, Externals included
At revision: 48745

How can i take the code from svn?

jwanagel Mar 29, 2009 at 10:53 AM
If the developers on the project are using Team Explorer then it adds source control binding information into the project files and that is what causes Visual Studio to prompt you when you download and open the source. You can ignore it by clicking Cancel, or manually remove the source control binding information after downloading to prevent the error messages.

haibin Nov 13, 2007 at 4:06 AM
I managed to download the source code this way. But when I opened the solution, it still asked to enter the user name and password to connect to the TFS server. I tried it with my login name and password and it did not work. Any idea how I can overcome it?
