There are several reasons why you might see an error when trying to install Microsoft programs. It might be because your computer doesn't have enough free disk space, a firewall is blocking the installation, the system doesn't meet the minimum requirements, or a proxy server is preventing the installation. Try each of the following troubleshooting tips, or click the error number that you received for more specific guidance.
Installation error 0x80070643 or 0x800706d9: You need to turn on Windows Firewall
Installation error 0x80070005: You need to log on to Windows as an administrator
Installation error 0x8104000b: It says you’re not connected to the Internet even though you're connected
I get a dynamic link library msi.dll error when I attempt to install Windows Essentials
There needs to be at least 400 MB of free disk space in order for Windows Essentials to install properly.
Under Hard Disk Drives, check the drive that you want to install Windows Essentials on to make sure that it has 400 MB of free space.
If the computer has a firewall program installed, make sure that it allows Windows Essentials to be installed.

Removing the temporary files on the computer sometimes helps, plus it frees up more space on the hard drive.
In the Drives list, click the hard disk drive that you want to clean up, and then click OK.
In the Disk Cleanup dialog box, on the Disk Cleanup tab, select check boxes to delete the following file types:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files
Temporary Files
Temporary Offline Files
Offline Files
Click OK, and then, in the message that appears, click Delete Files.
Your computer needs to meet the minimum system requirements in order for Windows Essentials to install correctly. To learn more, see the system requirements webpage.
The latest version of Windows Essentials won't run on Windows Vista or Windows XP.
If you're running Windows Vista, you'll need to install Windows Live Essentials 2011. For more installation information, see these system requirements and release notes.
If you're running Windows XP, you'll need to install Windows Live Essentials for Windows XP. For more installation information, see these system requirements and release notes.
If you have an earlier version of Windows Essentials installed and an error prevents one of the programs from updating, none of the programs will update.
If your computer is part of a corporate network and you see a message saying that your proxy settings are incorrect, check with your network administrator to see if a proxy server is preventing you from installing Windows Essentials. If you see the message and your computer isn't part of a corporate network, try checking the proxy settings.
