In his keynote speech at the 2013 Microsoft Research Faculty Summit today, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates said we are in a “golden age of computer science” and that the progress we’ll make in the next five to ten years will be unbelievable.
“The original vision of Microsoft – that we ought to dream about what software could do if we had infinite computing and infinite storage – that almost is our reality today, and so it’s amazing for me to see how that’s being applied,” Gates said.
As far as computer science has come, Gates adds that software has only achieved a small portion of what we want it to do and need it to do. Watch the video clip above on the Golden Age of Computer Science or view Gates’ keynote in its entirety on the Microsoft Research website.
