We are in the early stages of development of the official Stack Exchange Android App and we need your help with testing. To set a few expectations: there will be bugs, crashes, and missing features, all of which will be fixed in 6 to 8 weeks.

We are initially targeting Android devices running Jellybean (4.1 or higher) starting with phones (up to ~5 inch) and eventually moving our way to tablets.

To register for alpha testing sign up here.

After you register we will send you an invite to a private Google community where you can find a link to download our app directly from the Google Play store. The invitations will be sent out in waves, so if you don’t get an invite immediately, be patient.

Crash reports will be automatically reported back to us using crittercism. Bugs or feature requests should be reported here on meta and tagged: . Please do not use the Google community to report bugs.

As always, we welcome your feedback and are committed to building the best mobile app possible for browsing the Stack Exchange sites.

Minor gripe, but on the sign up form it says "Please provide us a link to one of your user profiles on Stack Exchange"... Should everyone theoretically have ONLY one profile...? – TronicZomB Jul 24 at 19:21

@TronicZomB At least the grammar allows for the possibility that you have more than one. ;) – J. Steen Jul 24 at 19:21

Should we avoid reporting bugs on tablets for now, or should we already test the app on a tablet if we have one? – Mad Scientist Jul 24 at 19:22

Android.SE mod here, you may want to cross post to our meta site too! meta.android.stackexchange.com – Bryan Denny Jul 24 at 19:23

@TronicZomB You can have profiles on each of the various Stack Exchange sites. For example, you have 19. – George Cummins Jul 24 at 19:25

@GeorgeCummins Ahh good point! I was reading it with a different interpretation in my head. :) – TronicZomB Jul 24 at 19:25

@DavidFullerton Understood. Though I hope you'll be targeting tablets soon, and I assume you're using fragments already and the tablet version won't be too difficult to implement. – Mad Scientist Jul 24 at 20:00

Cyanogenmod is your friend, @animuson. – Shog9 Jul 25 at 0:01

Well... I guess you don't have to build it from source if you don't want to, @ani. BTW: Android Enthusiasts – Shog9 Jul 25 at 2:13

@Izzy that is a feature of the Google Android developer tools that allows the developer to distribute a beta version to a specific set of users via the Play store. And that feature uses Google+ to create the access list. – Mad Scientist Jul 25 at 14:32

I signed up about 3 days ago, and I still haven't gotten the invitation. Is there something wrong, or are the invitations sent out scarcely? – Cody Guldner Jul 30 at 3:56

@CodyGuldner Aside from what Geoff said, see the question: "The invitations will be sent out in waves, so if you don’t get an invite immediately, be patient." -- we won't invite everyone at once, so it may be a while either way (see point 11 on joelonsoftware.com/articles/BetaTest.html for the main reason). – balpha Jul 30 at 5:44
