  WLK 1.6 active errata extended into 2015

  We have updated all active errata filters for the  Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.6 test kit. All errata that were fixed in the kit were expired. All active errata that weren't fixed have been extended until December 1, 2015. (This extension date shouldn't be considered an indication of the kit's retirement date.)

  You can  check the status of all errata on the  Hardware Dashboard. To narrow down the list, use the filters to view only active, expired, or expiring within 30 days. You can also search by ID and title.

  Merge .hckx packages

  HCK Studio supports merging packages into one new package. This
  feature gives you the flexibility to distribute your tests across different
  projects, machine pools, and/or other HCK environments. Once each package is
  successfully created, you can merge them using the Merge Package option.

  1. From HCK Studio, click Connect.
  2. Select Package option, and then click Browse and open the one
     of the existing .hckx package you want to merge.

     Note
     You must open an existing .hckx package to enable this scenario. The original .hckx package will not get modified.

  3. Select Package tab, click Merge Package.
  4. From the Open dialog, select an .hckx package you want to
     merge.

     Note
     If you accidentally selected the wrong package, exit the project and start over. You cannot cancel a merged file.

  5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for each additional package you want to
     merge.
  6. Click Create Package.

  WLK 1.6 submission processing ending

  The follow article impacts only those using WLK 1.6 for submissions.

  The Dashboard is no longer accepting WLK 1.6 submissions for any operating systems other than Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows IA 64, which were the operating systems which required the WLK 1.6 to complete full testing.   We realize this change has impacted partners who have continued to use WLK 1.6 for submissions for other architectures beyond than the areas identified where WLK 1.6 is the only submission option.

  HCK 2.0 allows unclassified testing for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 in addition to the full testing for Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012. We encourage you to use HCK 2.0 for testing and signing for Windows XP or Windows Vista until the HCK 2.0 kit is retired.

  Submitting a WLK 1.6 tested device using HCK 2.0

  If you have WLK 1.6 logs for Windows XP or Windows Vista which are now blocked from submission, you may work around the problem by creating a HCK 2.0 project for the appropriate operating system, but instead of scheduling tests, create a HCK 2.0 package which has no completed logs. This empty package will provide the vehicle to carry your already completed WLK 1.6 logs.

  Using the Dashboard submission packager, create a submission package using the empty HCK 2.0 package. Attach your completed WLK 1.6 logs in the readme folder. When submitted, the system will correctly identify your operating system and certification product by virtue of the HCK 2.0 wrapper. The reviewer can inspect and approve, based on your included WLK 1.6 logs.

  Untested signature for down-level available for unified drivers

  If you are creating a uniform driver which is used across all operating systems, test using the new HCK for Windows 8.1. When you use the Dashboard to build a submission package, the Dashboard site will offer check boxes to add digital signatures for Windows XP and Windows Vista. 

  If using a uniform driver and testing on a server operating system the Dashboard site willnot offer signature check boxes for Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008. These drivers would need to be tested and submitted using the HCK 2.0 kit (or using WLK 1.6 and submitted as described above).

  Windows Hardware Certification requirements for Windows 8.1 are now available

  New Hardware Certification requirements for systems, servers,
  devices, and filter drivers are now available for the coming Windows 8.1 and
  Windows Server 2012 R2 update.

  The preview of the Windows Hardware Certification Kit (HCK) will be made
  available on June 26, concurrent with the release of the public preview for
  Windows 8.1 (code-named "Windows Blue") and Windows Server 2012 R2. You will be
  able to begin certifying your systems, servers, and devices at that time.

  To make your review of the new document easier, notice the table of key
  changes. As with the Windows 8 requirements, the new document is organized by
  feature so that the related requirements that define the features are found
  together. You'll find a Product Type to Requirements to Test
  mapping matrix to help you determine which requirements and tests define
  certification for a given product type.

  The new requirements for the Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 update
  are now available here.

  Errata expiration guidelines

  We've updated all active errata filters for the Hardware Certification Kit (HCK) 2.0. All active errata that
  weren't fixed in the test kit are now extended until 9/30/2013. We'll reevaluate
  all active errata again about 3 months before the new expiration dates. We'll
  either retire errata or extend the expiration date again, depending on whether
  fixes are in place for the test issues. A few errata are set to expire between
  now and 9/30 by design for delayed enforcement reasons or because fixes were
  implemented into the next HCK release. Those errata won't be extended again.

  You can check the status of all errata anytime on the Hardware Dashboard. To narrow down the list, use the filters
  to view only active, expired, or expiring within 30 days. You can also search by
  ID and title.

  Transitional plan for submitting with the WLK 1.6 and HCK 2.0
  kits

  You can use the Windows HCK for Windows 8.1 Preview until it's replaced by an
  updated version of HCK for Windows 8.1 released at RTM of Windows 8.1. The
  Windows 8.1 Preview will get QFEs as needed, all of which will be rolled into
  the RTM kit. There will be a 90-day transition period after RTM before the HCK
  for Windows 8.1 Preview retires.

  After the same 90-day transition period, HCK 2.0 will be retired. WLK 1.6
  will continue to be available for Windows Server 2003 devices and drivers,
  Windows Server 2008 devices and drivers, and Windows Server 2008 R2 until those
  programs retire at a later date, to be announced.

  The portal is no longer directly supporting WLK 1.6-based submissions for
  Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. If this change impacts you, contact [email protected]
  for details about an alternative method for submitting your client WLK 1.6 logs.
  WLK 1.6 tested Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 submissions will be
  accepted using the alternative plan until 90 days past Windows 8.1 RTM.

  Windows HCK Refresh Coming at Windows 8 RTM

  At
  Windows 8 RTM, a refreshed Windows Hardware Certification Kit (HCK) will be
  available. The kit will include all QFEs released since Windows 8 Release
  Preview, plus a few more. You'll be able to download the RTM kit from the same
  place you download the current kit.

  The
  Hardware Developer Portal will accept certification submissions from either the
  Release Preview or the RTM co-release version of the HCK during a 90-day
  transition. After the transition period ends, the RTM HCK will be the only
  acceptable HCK version. The older Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.6 isn't affected by
