Surface disk space FAQ

Surface comes with different storage options.

• Surface RT users can select between a 32 GB and 64 GB version.
• Surface Pro users can select between a 64 GB and 128 GB version.

Note  Not all of this space is available for your music, photos, videos, and other content. System software uses significant storage space. Available storage is subject to change based on system software updates and apps usage. 1 GB = 1 billion bytes. See Surface.com/storage for more details.

How much storage space do I have?

• The 32 GB version has approximately 15 GB free hard disk space.
• The 64 GB version has approximately 45 GB free hard disk space.

• The 64 GB version has approximately 30 GB free hard disk space.
• The 128 GB version has approximately 89 GB free hard disk space.

You can use this free space for apps, documents, music, videos, and photos. If you need additional space, see the How can I add more storage space? section below.

How do I see my available storage?

To see how much storage space you have:

1. From the Start screen, tap or click Desktop.
2. Tap or click the File Explorer icon on the taskbar (appears as a file folder).
3. Tap or click Computer from the column on the left.
   The amount of storage space on your hard disk is shown (for example, 16 GB free of 24 GB).

Tip  To see how much space each app is using, go to PC settings (open the Settings charm, tap or click Change PC settings, tap or click General, scroll down to Available storage and tap or click View app sizes).

How can I add more storage space?

In addition to the internal disk space, the following storage options are available for your music, documents, videos, and pictures:

• Cloud storage using SkyDrive
• microSD, microSDHC, or microSDXC memory card (adds up to 64 GB)
• USB flash drive or hard drive
