Activating Google Cloud Storage
Prerequisites
You must already have a Google account, such as from Gmail, etc. If you don't have one of these yet, you need to sign up at the main Google account signup site.
Activating a new Cloud project for Google Cloud Storage (GCS)
This scenario covers creating a new App Engine app, creating a Cloud project for it, and then hooking up GCS to the project.
To activate a new Cloud project for App Engine and Google Cloud Storage:
- Visit the Cloud Console.
- Create a new project.
- In the Cloud console page for your project, click the gear icon in the far upper right and select Billing. You have to enable billing in order to use GCS.
- Click Enable Billing and follow the prompts to complete the billing setup, including any email verification steps. This could take a few minutes. (Until this completes successfully, you won't be able to create any buckets.)
- Return to the console page for your project and click Cloud Storage.
- Click New Bucket and follow the prompts to create a new bucket. Your App Engine App will automatically be given read and write permissions to the bucket.
At this point, you are ready to upload and deploy your App Engine App for testing against GCS.
