Ever since it was founded in 1965, Promociones y Construcciones (PRYCONSA) has successfully weathered the highs and lows of both the Spanish economy and the real estate sector in which it operates. Despite the recession that Spain is going through today, PRYCONSA continues to adapt to the economic climate and invest for efficiency.
During the boom years, PRYCONSA built, promoted and sold as many as 30 developments simultaneously. In this time of crisis, it has a powerful strategic vision for future business success that includes developing an innovative tourist resort in south-west Spain, and expanding in growing economies like Brazil.
In preparing for the future based on the idea of a cyclical economy, PRYCONSA has asked itself fundamental questions. How can we improve our internal and external processes? How can we benefit from new technologies? What do we need to do to ensure fast, reliable, efficient communication between all our group companies, and to drive synergies?
Centralisation demands secure, reliable access
As a first step to answering those questions, PRYCONSA is implementing a centralised SAP system. Given how fundamental information is to business decision-making, PRYCONSA wanted to be confident of having secure, uninterrupted access to its those SAP applications and the data they hold.
But what really motivates a company to invest in its IT and communications infrastructure when its sector is suffering a deep recession? PRYCONSA’s CIO explains: “It’s true that in times of crisis the usual course of action is to reduce costs and capital expenditure. But investing in our ITC infrastructure now means we’ll be better prepared for the future than our competitors.”
In the past, PRYCONSA’s IT department provided services on demand for each group company and office location. This created multiple small networks that couldn’t communicate with each other without going via the Internet, leading to bottlenecks, delays and even loss of communication.
PRYCONSA knew it needed to take a different approach to its networking infrastructure to ensure reliable access to centralised SAP applications. It therefore put potential suppliers through a rigorous selection process that emphasised reliability, security and credibility – all areas in which Colt stands out.
A key Colt strength is its ability to understand its customers’ needs and provide them with the most appropriate solutions. To give PRYCONSA the reliable access it needs to its SAP system, Colt installed a robust, high-availability, double-ringed IP VPN with symmetrical 20Mbps Internet access.
Some of PRYCONSA’S previous communications services had become outdated: until relatively recently, for example, temporary building site offices were provided with fixed phone and fax lines but no mobile capability. Colt facilitated installation of third-party 3G mobile access at these site offices and implemented fixed/mobile convergence. This comprehensive solution, complete with encryption, is managed by Colt and provides PYRCONSA with both mobility and centralised communications capability.
Increased efficiency, day by day
Putting information at its employees’ fingertips is increasing productivity, improving business processes and enabling more efficient use of resources. For example, plans for new developments are now held centrally and can be accessed over the network from anywhere, including offices, building sites and show homes. And centralising permits for all the utilities – including water, gas and electricity – makes them easier to manage during the construction phase, saving time and increasing efficiency.
PRYCONSA confirms that the Colt solution will enable it to significantly reduce the cost of its voice infrastructure and implement a corporate intranet and cloud applications. The company is now in the process of deploying desktop virtualisation technology to take advantage of IT consumerisation.
The initial contract between Colt and PRYCONSA was for one year, but the positive experience and high levels of satisfaction means that PRYCONSA is betting on Colt for the future. Colt’s ability to understand PRYCONSA’s challenges, provide the right solutions, and respond rapidly in the event of any issues, has created a trusted relationship between the two companies.
As PRYCONSA grows and evolves, it knows it can count on Colt to keep pace: rapidly implementing new services as and when required; and maintaining the levels of reliability, quality and security that were fundamental from the outset.
