Corporate Social Responsibility

What it means

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is about looking beyond our business and seeking ways to make a positive contribution to all the people we work with, local communities and environment.

Colt is committed to being a responsible and sustainable company. Our behaviour shapes the attitudes and actions of our employees, customers, suppliers, partners and shareholders. We will continue to operate with integrity, making every effort to ensure our success also benefits those around us.

We are committed to delivering business results in a responsible and inclusive way.

How we do it

We constantly look at the opportunities available to us. All our CSR activity is delivered under four themes that have their own objectives, targets and measures. CSR matters to us.

Our CSR philosophy is focused on creating win-win outcomes in everything we do. Being more energy efficient is obviously good for the environment, but by reducing energy costs, it’s good for Colt too. Our continued growth broadens our ability to help employees, customers, the community and the environment.

CSR Matters

Every global organization has an impact beyond its daily business activities. What kind of impact comes down to choice. At Colt, we chose to:

  • behave responsibly
  • care for the environment
  • ensure our business is sustainable
  • place value on customers, communities and employees
  • encourage all our colleagues to volunteer twice  a year

CSR matters and will continue to matter to Colt.

We want to create a great place to work for our existing and future employees. It’s simple- a diverse, motivated and values driven workforce achieves more for themselves and those around them.

Colt behave responsibly in  everything we do and we have put in place a number of policies to ensure this remains normal practice. We actively operate an Equal Opportunities Policy, resulting in a diverse employee population which properly reflects the wider community population in each of our geographic locations.

Colt’s increasing focus on energy and carbon is proven in the way we monitor our own output and search for the best ways to lower carbon emissions. Helping customers reduce their impact on the environment is a Colt priority.

We have specific propositions for our customers,  helping them be more environmentally friendly. For instance, Colt’s data centre in Iceland, has a zero carbon footprint due to its use of exclusively geothermal and hydroelectric power for its required energy, and is almost 100% recyclable at end of life.

Colt is taking environmental issues very seriously. We recognize our responsibility in this area and make sure our activities are sustainable with a focus on environmental protection.

As a responsible company, we are clear with our stakeholders and report openly on our impact on the environment. We are committed to continuous improvement and have declared our carbon footprint since 2009, despite the absence of a mandatory requirement. We’re proud we saved over 15,000 tonnes of carbon between 2010 and 2012 through a best-in-class energy efficiency programme.

We listen to communities and colleagues and get their views on what is truly helpful and supportive.  From access to education to donations and volunteering, we merge people, skills and ideas to create a winning combination for everyone involved.

We believe the technology advances we deliver  in business can benefit people who are most in need. Our volunteering programme is built on the theme“Children and Education”. Every Colt employee is entitled to two paid volunteering days per year, and we actively encourage all Colt employees to consider this theme when choosing how to make best use of these crucial two days.
