Update your Java or Adobe product

Some threats exploit vulnerabilities in software. Microsoft security software can help protect you against these threats. However, you should also update your software to the latest version to help keep your computer secure.

The instructions below can help you update the following software:

  • Java

  • Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat

  • Adobe Flash Player

Java

To check for updates for Java:

  1. Tap or click Control Panel then Java.

  2. Go to the Updates tab and tap or click the Update now button.

We also recommend that you remove older versions of Java.

Why should I uninstall older versions of Java from my system?

After February 2013, Java SE 6 will only be updated if you are an enterprise customer. If you are running Java SE 6, this might leave you vulnerable to threats. We recommend you either upgrade your Java version to 7 or higher and remove Java 6, or completely remove Java from your PC.

Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat

  1. In the main menu bar tap or click Help

  2. Select Check for Updates

Adobe Flash Player

Adobe Flash Player automatically tells you when new updates are available. If you want to manually update the version of Adobe Flash Player on your computer:

  1. Tap or click Control Panel then Flash

  2. Go to the Advanced tab and tap or click the Check now button:
