I can't get the openlayer plugin to run. I've got QGIS V1.8 on Windows 7. I've tried various repo's recommended on different sites; http://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/plugins.xml & http://build.sourcepole.ch/qgis/plugins.xml

but when I try to add a layer & connect to one of the sites I get long error messages.

Any help appreciated (hope I've given enough info).

what are the error messages? pretty hard for anyone to tell what might be going on without this detail –  Mark Sep 12 '13 at 13:51

I can confirm that OpenLayers Plugin (1.1.0) from official repo is viable on the OSGeo4W install of QGIS 1.8.0 on Windows 7 –  Scro Sep 12 '13 at 14:12

How old is your installation? For me in such unusual cases that i receive errors where none else does, I prefer to uninstall QGIS, erase the .qgis folder and erase the QuantumGIS key from the registry. Normally reinstalling then does the trick for me. Maybe its just another plugin that makes the trouble, so deactivating some/all plugins might also lead to a solution. –  Bernd V. The official way is:

  • Plugins -> Fetch python plugins
  • select the Openlayers plugin and install it
  • Plugins -> Openlayers plugin -> Select an entry
