• Simple and secure communication

  Most IM systems presently in use were not designed with security in mind. Virtually all freeware IM programs lack encryption capabilities and most have features that bypass traditional corporate firewalls, making it difficult for administrators to control instant messaging usage inside an organization.

  Many of these systems have insecure password management and are vulnerable to account spoofing and denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. In contrast, Microsoft Lync 2010 uses TLS and MTLS to encrypt instant messages. Media traffic is encrypted using Secure RTP (SRTP), a profile of Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP) that provides confidentiality, authentication, and replay attack protection to RTP traffic.

  Lync Server 2010 works consistently with Microsoft Office, enriching the experience of familiar applications such as Microsoft Outlook®, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft SharePoint®. It provides:

  Whether at home or at a public hot spot users can work remotely using just an Internet connection. They can stay connected on one or multiple devices using the same sign-in credentials. Connection is possible from a desktop PC, MAC, mobile device (iPhone and Android), public Internet kiosk using Communicator Web Access, Microsoft Windows Mobile® device using Communicator Mobile, or IP phone running Office Communicator Phone Edition.

• • Contact tagging enables users to tag a contact and receive automatic notification when that person’s presence information changes.
  • Presence status can be controlled or set automatically based on your Outlook calendar, computer activity, or whether you are in a call.
  • Access levels enables control over who can view contact information. You can create a group of preferential contacts by assigning team access level that allows them to always reach you.
  • Contact management features give greater control over contacts, including a Recent Contacts list that automatically shows your last ten contacts.
  • Corporate distribution group integration allows searching for corporate distribution groups and adding them to the Contact List.
  • Contact Cards provide detailed information about each contact and options for contacting the person.
  • Drag and drop features allow setting up contact groups, dragging a contact name from a directory search into the Contact List, or adding a contact to a conversation by simply dragging the name into the Conversation window.
  • Line of business application integration allows extending line of business applications to access rich communications capabilities.
  • File transfer capabilities allow quick transfer of a file by dragging it into an IM session.
  • Incoming conversation alerts show the details of an incoming instant message, including the name and presence of the person messaging you.
