Problem Installing SQL Server 2012

    Question

  • Hello,  I am currently trying to install SQL Server 2012 and I'm having a problem.  When I try to install a "New SQL Server stand alone installation..." from the SQL Server Installation Center, it gives me the error:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly

    'Microsoft.VC80.ATL,version=8.0.50727.6229",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchit

ecture="x86",type"win32". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:

    0x80070422.

After clicking "OK" I get this error:

Windows Installer file: C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\Temp\SQL Server 2012

    \Setup\1033_ENU_LP\x64\setup\sqlsupport_msi\SqlSupport.msi

Windows Installer log file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup

    Bootstrap\Log\20131207_210515\SqlSupport_Cpu64_1_ComponentUpdate.log

After clicking "Retry" it loads for awhile and then shuts down and I get the "Setup Stopped Working" window.  Does anyone know what the problem is?  How can I finish installing the software? Thanks

  • Hi Mike,

The issue seems to be due to Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Runtime Redistributable Package ATL Security Update (build 8.0.50727.4053) installed on your computer. You can install the cumulative update 1 patch for SQL Server 2012 or the latest patch of SQL Server 2012 to fix the issue. Please refer the below link for further details.

  • Hello its me again, thanks for the replies.  I tried downloading the new VC++ 2005 SP1 from the link you gave me but while installing I came up with this error:

Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly

    'Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type="win32"version="8.0.50727.4053",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="amd64'amd64

Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks

  • Hi its me again.  I looked over the two resources you gave me and neither of them has worked.  I tried clearing the log as well as installing under clean boot but I continue to get the same error code as above while trying to install VC++ 2005 SP1.  I also tried uninstalling my VC++ 2010 Redistributable and then installing the 2005 version but still got the Error 1935.  Any other ideas?  Thanks

  • Hi Mike,

When we faced this issue we finally had decided to re install the OS and re installing the OS had solved the issue. This issue is basically not with SQL Server but with the OS. If your environment is VM based and you have a standard VM template that includes the OS also the OS re installation should not be a lengthy process.

  • Hello, thanks for the replies.  So what your saying is I should reinstall the OS(Windows 8) and try to install SQL Server 2012 after that? Could I try installing Windows 8 as a secondary partition and then install SQL Server over that partition? (I wanted to install SQL as a partition anyways). Also, while trying to install I came upon a new error message using the SQL setup.  After going through the above error messages and clicking retry when they came up I got this message:

cannot execute a program. the command being executed was
    "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\csc.exe" /noconfig /fullpaths
    @"C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\Temp\vceg1ua9.cmdline"..

Shortly after that I got the "SQL Server 2012 Setup has stopped working" message.  Any ideas?  I will wait for your replies and try reinstalling the OS and see if that works. Thanks

  • Hi Mike,

Could you please mention the versions of OS and SQL server i.e. 32 bit or 64 bit. From error messages, I can infer 64bit version SQL server is being run on 32bit machine.

Also, please see if there are any errors logged in the following log:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup

    Bootstrap\Log\20131207_210515\SqlSupport_Cpu64_1_ComponentUpdate.log

    Thanks,

  • Hello, I am using Windows 8 64-bit as you can see in the picture below under "System Type".  But it does say Program files(x86).  I originally had 32-bit OS but it wasn't using all of my physical RAM so I installed the 64-bit version recently.  You can see in the picture below that it says 6GB RAM where it used to say 6GB(3.25 usable).  I'm not sure if the SQL Server 2012 is 32 bit or 64 bit.  I can look and check later, but I'm guessing that its 64 bit.  And back to the other reply, does anyone know if I can install windows 8 again and then install SQL over that partition? Thanks

  • Hello, Good news!  I reinstalled Windows 8 on a 100GB partition on my (C:) Drive, and when I was done with that I installed SQL Server with no error messages.  But now I've got a new problem.  When I get to the "Installation Complete" window, I click "OK" to finish installation and nothing happens. I tried rebooting but it goes to Windows 8(with a lot of new apps from SQL).  How do I get it to install over Windows 8?  Do I have to do anything after the installation is complete?  I'll wait for replies...Thanks

  • Hi its me,  I still haven't been able to get to the start screen for SQL Server.  I want SQL be the only OS on the new partition.  When I finish the installation it says everything succeeded but like I said before, when I click "OK" to finish installation it doesn't do anything.  While looking at Control Panel uninstall, I see a lot of SQL programs, including SQL Server 2012 (64-bit).  Is that what I'm looking for?  I've searched for it so I can open it but can't find it under "Search".  Any ideas on how I can find it or how to install SQL as the only OS on my new Partition?
