Last year, at Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference 2013, we announced plans to help partners capitalize on the rapidly expanding opportunity presented by intelligent systems. This plan included the transition of program administration for the Windows Embedded Partner Program ecosystem into the Microsoft Partner Network (MPN), offering our partners more program options and greater partner benefits. We are excited to follow through on that commitment, as Windows Embedded and MPN’s combined efforts culminate in the launch of the new Intelligent Systems competency.

What does enterprise mobility mean to you? Many of us think of mobility as a small handheld computing device we carry with us to stay on top of business. Enterprise mobility enables a workforce to have instant access to information through mobile applications anywhere, anytime.
In today's business environment, we rely on the availability of and access to the latest information in real time, and mobility makes this possible. This is especially true in healthcare: Health organizations need information when and where they need it. Anywhere access is becoming equal in importance to having an Internet connection.

The U.S. spends about $2.8 trillion annually on health expenses. That’s about $8,915 per person and amounts to 17.2 percent of gross domestic product. These numbers are astounding!
The West Health Institute, a medical research organization, has identified the lack of medical device interoperability — the ability of medical devices and healthcare systems to seamlessly communicate and exchange information — as one source of high healthcare costs. It reports an opportunity to save up to $30 billion per year, if the vision of a connected healthcare marketplace can be realized.

As many of you are probably already aware — and as my colleague Barb Edson explained in a blog post last April — Windows XP reaches End of Support on April 8, 2014, which is just a few weeks away. As a result, there will be no new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free or paid assisted support options, or online technical content updates. Please click here for more details.
This is a significant event for Windows, and it also has implications for Windows Embedded products that are based on the Windows XP operating system.

When we launched Windows Embedded Compact 2013 in June 2013, we created an operating system platform well suited for creating small-footprint devices that provide silicon flexibility with real-time capabilities. We also updated the product with the latest tools and technologies by integrating with the latest Visual Studio (at the time, Visual Studio 2012), Compact .Net Framework 3.9 (based on .Net Framework 3.9), and a new compiler with better optimization, networking and cloud capabilities.
