VMware recently awarded Colt the title of Global Service Provider Partner of the Year 2014, reflecting Colt’s success in developing our vCloud service portfolio, offer-ing customers a flexible pool of resources comprised of compute, storage and net-working elements delivered from Colt’s own data centres in Europe, and backed by our industry-leading network.

• Workspace as a Service: a solution that provides enterprise end users with secure, anytime, anywhere access to their corporate applications and data across the whole range of today's modern end user computing devices. Evolving technology and changing work environments are a complex and costly proposition for IT departments. End users today expect access to data and applications – anytime and anywhere – regardless of device. This new level of flexibility must be delivered within a secure and controlled manner.

This area has been high on our agenda for a long time.  We worked with VMware on a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) project involving our circa 5,000 employees. Having successfully rolled out a VMware based VDI service internally, we then began developing the service for our customers and have recently announced a 25% savings achieved by Hammersmith & Fulham Council in the UK. 

• vCloud Virtual Data Centre – Back-up & Replication Services: the biggest benefits of cloud computing are flexibility and cost-effectiveness, and our vCloud back-up and Replication services are no different. By enabling our cus-tomers to tap into the services on a pay-as- you-consume rather than a fixed fee, we are able to reduce the total cost of ownership for our customers. Colt’s backup service for VMware vCloud® allows end-user customers to choose exactly what data they want to protect and backup, the level of resili-ency, and in which European locations. These services are particularly rele-vant to small and medium enterprises, which require cost-effective disaster recovery capabilities.

To boost data integrity and ensure peace of mind for our customers, we’ve devel-oped Colt vCloud Replication Service.  Built into all our vClouds in Europe, it offers replication near-synchronously from your onsite environment to the Colt vCloud En-vironment or between two Colt vCloud environments. This ensures that, if the worst was to happen, your critical infrastructure and applications can be back up and run-ning in minutes with minimal data loss.
