I am a newb to java web. So I wanted to learn some new skills about Jsp + Spring 3 + Hibernate + postgresql. And I am having a very hard time to do the setup and configurate xml files in eclipse maven project. Wish that some body will help to guide me to a right direction.

So my web.xml contains a very basic setting:

<listener>
    <listener-class>org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoaderListener</listener-class>
</listener>
<context-param>
    <param-name>contextConfigLocation</param-name>
    <param-value>classpath:/spring/applicationContext.xml, classpath:/spring/hibernateContext.xml</param-value>
</context-param>

<servlet>
    <servlet-name>appServlet</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet</servlet-class>
    <init-param>
        <param-name>contextConfigLocation</param-name>
        <param-value></param-value>
    </init-param>
    <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
</servlet>

<servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>appServlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>

My resources/spring/applicationContext.xml

Becaue I just wanna do a quick test, so my controller class is very simple:

@Controller
@RequestMapping("/index")
public class IndexController {
@RequestMapping(method=RequestMethod.GET)
public String printHello( ModelMap model ) {
    model.addAttribute("message", "Hola");
    return "index";
}
}

and my WEB-INF/jsp/index.jsp:

<h2>Hello World!</h2>
<h3>${message}</h3>

And last is my stacktrace:

So, I read the stacktrace and I think that I didnt include postgresql driver in my pom.xml. I double check and see it already there.

This is my pom.xml:

sorry. I will keep in mind about the rules. –  tom tomegain Aug 16 at 1:04

yep, my exception is changed. Now the first one is: SEVERE: Context initialization failed org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'sessionFactory' defined in class path resource [spring/hibernateContext.xml]: Invocation of init method failed; nested exception is org.hibernate.MappingException: Could not get constructor for org.hibernate.persister.entity.SingleTableEntityPersister –  tom tomegain Aug 16 at 1:23

I read other post and see that I am missing javassist.jar, but it doesnt help –  tom tomegain Aug 16 at 1:25

I noticed a few other possible errors: references to 'book.hbm.xml', and mysqldialect. I'd recommend taking a look at a tutorial, like this one: mkyong.com/tutorials/hibernate-tutorials (doesn't have Postgres, but mysql should be roughly the same). –  Pancakeo Aug 16 at 1:27

1 Answer 1

your driver class for postgresql should be org.postgresql.Driver for version 7 and later, in your database.properties file. Please refer to this link to know driver class name. Also, looks like your url is incorrect too:

Please have a look at following :

PostgreSQL (v6.5 and earlier)
url : jdbc:postgresql://<HOST>:<PORT>/<DB>
driver : postgresql.Driver

PostgreSQL (v7.0 and later)
url : jdbc:postgresql://<HOST>:<PORT>/<DB>
driver : org.postgresql.Driver

Yeah, you are right. I just update my driver to org.postgresql.Driver as well as update my localhost to jdbc:postgresql://127.0.0.1:5432/. But the problem still remain. –  tom tomegain Aug 16 at 1:04

Did your exception change afterward? By that I mean: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Could not load JDBC driver class [com.postgresql.jdbc.Driver] –  Pancakeo Aug 16 at 1:24
