Looks like this is not for beginners –  Mahendra Gunawardena Jul 12 at 21:28

Shopping questions are off topic on EE.SE. But if you want my opinion, go with an official board and support the Arduino community. Be wary that the cheapest of the cheap clones tend to be so for a reason - for one thing you have to download some random driver from some website somewhere to get it to work. –  Tom Carpenter Jul 12 at 21:35

Reduce the cost by replacing the second MCU with a FTDI chip. Hrm.,.. –  Ignacio Vazquez-Abrams Jul 12 at 21:46

@IgnacioVazquez-Abrams Not FTDI- it's an original Chinese part with unique drivers. There have been problems with cloned FTDI parts- the drivers were updated to specifically not work with the clones (and the original update bricked the product deliberately, which they quickly walked back). For now it's probably best to avoid claimed FTDI parts unless you know for sure they are genuine. I think FTDI may have shot themselves in the foot with this. –  Spehro Pefhany Jul 12 at 23:19

Of course it's a knock-off. But the back side photo shows the FTDI logo. –  Ignacio Vazquez-Abrams Jul 13 at 1:01

If you want something for beginners or someone new to Arduino, I would strongly recommend against this (like Mahendra is saying).

This does not look to be an original or licensed board (they will have the Arduino logo on them).

If you want a good deal, I would recommend this uno: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SF28U7A?colid=27OLSW1O00PHR&coliid=IJ5VSTFQ3UYIK&ref_=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl. I've bought from them before and the board works quite well. If you want something more powerful that requires a bit of assembly (order and solder your own headers), I would recommend a teensy 3.1. They are (if I remember right) like $25 with shipping and are equally as powerful as an Arduino Mega. You ,however, do need to buy your own headers.

Hope this helps.
