I am only able to upload the code to my Arduino Uno once, and then I have to restart my laptop to do it again. I am using Ubuntu. What could be causing an issue like this?

    Is very difficult to answer your question because there aren't enough details. I appreciate you may not have more details to give, but that could itself be a big clue as to whats going on. You haven't even said how you are programming your Arduino, are you using the IDE, command line, make files? I have never used an Arduino with Linux, but I seem to remember that there is some fiddling about you need to do with all that /dev/ stuff and some versions of the IDE might not release the device properly, I saw this on here. So do a search on here and edit your question to add LOTS more details. – Code Gorilla Sep 29 '16 at 11:59
  • Please tell us what version of Arduino IDE you are using. Have you tried updating to the latest (or using an older version)? I don't have the answer but I have a few other things you can try. Open a terminal and type dmesg linfo.org/dmesg.html To upload a new sketch, you may need to press the reset button on the board immediately before pressing the upload button in the Arduino environment. Alternatively, does disconnecting the Uno from both power & USB eliminate the need to restart the laptop? – sa_leinad Sep 29 '16 at 13:24
