    Yeah there's stuff like "buy me a coffee" but I have literally never seen anyone make their time back unless they are one of a hundred people lucky enough to work on their project full time (see Vue).

    I believe we need a middle-ground between open source projects and SaaS businesses. I would invest time into useful packages if there was an easy way to monetize. Like a GitHub repo with a pay wall. Would anyone use this if I built it?

    I'm not saying out-of-staters aren't showing up to riot. I am saying that if you write the whole thing off on them you're just pretending your citizens aren't ready to go to the mattresses.
