I've been treating tuShorten/tuWiden as a string-ish conversion between UTF16 and UTF 8, so I recommend this.
Here's the code; add it to the end of every tuShorten/tuWiden function.

Description of bug / unexpected behavior
I found this weird, but I am not sure whether this is correct or wrong approach
when I use VGroup to group the same Matrix objects more than one, it looks that only the last one is appearing, and the other one not, its place is empty
