    I've never found a good solution to the problem of getting feedback on an early proposal. There seems to be no step between "everyone ignores it because it doesn't matter" and "everyone freaks out because they think you're deploying a fait accompli".

    Paying less for a product that purports to improve cognitive ability reduces the effect (Shiv, Carmon, ; 2005). Has anyone ever studied if artificially _increasing_ the price makes the effect _stronger_?

    Fun fact: I spent several weeks preparing for this talk, and saw what I'd prepared the day before I gave it. He told me I had to completely redo it. So what you see actually only took about 24h to write and prepare. It's much better than what I'd planned...

    Disclaimer: several APIs have changed since that talk. "config" on State is now "widget", onBeginFrame is now split into onBeginFrame and onDrawFrame, we don't use the "new" keyword anymore... That mostly shouldn't get in the way of the talk's message though.

    This presentation gives a post-hoc rationalization for several core architectural choices in the Flutter framework that can be helpful in understanding why things are how they are. (Mostly these reasons are fictional and the real reasons are "we got lucky" but...)

    The best thing apple could do for macOS and iOS developer happiness is to make stuff cross-compilable from a proper operating system, so that nobody ever has to run any build automation on this dreck.

    When writing documentation I try to always make the examples be cultural references or in-jokes rather than random content. There's obscure LGBTQ+ references in the HTML spec, Hamilton quotes in the Flutter docs, pictures of my cats, references to events or people in my life...

    Whats something silly you've done in your career that still makes you laugh?

    Usually baby bird season is full of stress and sadness for me. But this past year, people have been sending me stories of helping birds (or leaving them be) because they read this chart I made, and if this is the only impact I ever have on the Earth, I'll be happy forever.
