Reading kids literature that includes a variety of people and family structures is so important. It can be the first time a kid sees themselves in the heroes of a book. It can be the first time a kid sees their families represented.

My team in Sunnyvale is hiring to work on SiliFuzz. Are you interested in advancing the state of the Fuzzing technology? Do you like doing low-level work with CPUs, OS kernels, Emulators, and compilers? Want to work on a modern C++ code base (soon to be open-sourced)?

This paper by Bronson et al should be required reading for people working on high-load/high-scale distributed systems: (hat tip for his blog reminding me to read it again this week)

Get your charitable donations in! Many of us in tech have seen our overall earnings and wealth increase a lot over the past few years, please don't neglect to give some of it back.

Your regular friendly reminder… These datasets all have the same mean, median, and variance. Moral of the story: Always visualise your data!

Surprised no one has capitalized on this opportunity: private chartered flights cross country requiring vaccine and pre-boarding rapid tests, at prices 5-10x commercial airlines. Feel like many would pay for this, even if the optics would be horrible

Finally exited my short after over a year. Down from $357 to $210. Still bearish on longer term potential here but didn't want to be sitting on the position for years.

Anyone have a recommendation for transferring relatively large sums of money abroad (THB)? Used in the past but they currently seem to have misplaced a large transfer and not calling me back...

It's fun to think about the leverage this provides on small optimizations (or perf bugs). Save 1 microsecond on a critical path -> 1000 CPU cores saved -> ~1 rack of hardware.

Another very cool datapoint being talked about at Google Cloud Next today: Spanner services 1 billion QPS. Even as someone who spent the prior 10 years working on "big data", that's an almost incomprehensibly large number of transactions.

Always a good day when 5 hours in gdb brings you from "it's the application" to "it's some library code" to "it's the allocator" to "it's the kernel" with a fair amount of confidence.

Would you like to come be my boss? Please? I don't much want to run a large org, so we're hiring to relieve my manager load. If you've got interest in platforms (vs products) and experience with managing medium/large orgs, apply for this one. Your coworkers will be amazing.

Any other fiber customers in menlo park (or bay area in general) getting unusable latencies and packet loss to Google? ping 8.8.8.8 1+ sec, ping 1.1.1.1 is fine. Seems to be a network issue but their support doesn't understand what I"m saying.

Researchers have developed a new simulator to predict the throughput of basic blocks of all Intel Core μarchs released in the last decade, demonstrating to be more accurate than the predictions of state-of-the-art tools by more than an order of magnitude.
