Thank you for your interest in the survey. Let us quickly explain the purpose of the survey, how we plan to use and disclose survey responses and for what purposes, where survey responses will be transferred, who is eligible to participate in this survey, and how we protect your privacy:
Why do we want your input?
- We want to hear your voice to understand the factors that impact software delivery performance, as well as your sense of productivity and well-being. For example, the survey includes questions about how you do your work, how you work with others, and how you find information. We also ask about demographics, where you work, and well-being.
- There are no wrong answers here; we want to capture your opinion, your view, and your experience.
- We also want your input so we can use it to develop reports, improve our products, and conduct research, as we describe in more detail below.
How will we use and disclose your survey responses, and for what purposes?
If you consent to participate in this survey, we will collect, use, and maintain the raw survey responses you submit to:
If you consent to participate in this survey, we will collect, use, and maintain the raw survey responses you submit to:
- Create our publicly available State of the Octoverse Report on developer experiences, productivity, and performance that we publish annually. We will not include any of your raw survey responses in the Octoverse Report, though we will use your responses to glean insights and trends that we will incorporate in this Report. You can view last year’s reports here: https://octoverse.github.com/.
- Inform research and development of our products, as well as influence our advocacy efforts on behalf of developers.
- We will not disclose any of the raw survey data that you submit to any third parties besides our trusted service providers, such as SurveyMonkey.
Who is eligible to participate?
- We are seeking responses from anyone who identifies as a developer, whether or not they use GitHub. Please feel free to forward this survey to your friends and colleagues! Let them know they can access the survey here!
- You may participate on your mobile device or your laptop.
How do we ensure your privacy?
- We employ pseudonymization techniques to help prevent your survey responses from being associated with you. We use unique ID numbers to identify your responses, rather than your name, email address, or other identifying information. We also do not collect or store your IP address or other kinds of tracking data in connection with this survey. In addition, we limit access to the raw survey data that we collect to the GitHub research and policy team.
- After analysis of the raw survey data for research purposes, we will employ additional techniques to aggregate the data, at which point we will delete your raw survey responses that constitute personal data. No data will be kept longer than five years.
- We will not combine your responses with any other personal data about you or use your responses to identify you. Your responses will only be reported in aggregate.
Your participation in this survey, as well as your consent to our processing your personal information as described above, is voluntary, and there are no consequences associated with a choice not to participate. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time, at your free discretion, and you may do so by contacting us at octoverse@github.com. Note that withdrawing your consent will not affect the lawfulness of our processing your personal information based on your consent prior to any withdrawal.
