    Full post-mortem soon but for comparison, this is how they handled the same situation when their own team accidentally made desktop/desktop private:

    A developer mistakenly made the GitHub Desktop repo private this morning. Flipping it back doesn’t restore stars (and a few other things), so we are restoring from DB backup. That's all.

    ⚠️ Please note that we accidentally made our repo private for a sec and deleted all our watchers and stargazers. Since they won’t restore it from backup for us, there’s no GitHub notification going to downstream maintainers about this security fix.
