Few days ago, I made my repo "jd-shopper" private, and I lost 1.7k stars. GitHub customer told me there is no-way to recover the stars. This has discouraged me from working on open source projects in recent weeks๐Ÿคฃ Sad story...๐Ÿ˜‚

Full post-mortem soon but for comparison, this is how they handled the same situation when their own team accidentally made desktop/desktop private:

Replying to @jsparanoguy @GitHubDesktop and @github
A developer mistakenly made the GitHub Desktop repo private this morning. Flipping it back doesnโ€™t restore stars (and a few other things), so we are restoring from DB backup. That's all.

โš ๏ธ Please note that we accidentally made our repo private for a sec and deleted all our watchers and stargazers. Since they wonโ€™t restore it from backup for us, thereโ€™s no GitHub notification going to downstream maintainers about this security fix.

Dear Electron apps, itโ€™s โ€™22โ€”consider switching from pointer cursors for non-link UI elements to arrows with subtle hovers. It may feel alien at 1st but your users will never look back & your web version will profit too

Can't believe I ended up writing an 'interpreter' for supporting nested JSON. Perhaps I can even add a JIT overlay ๐Ÿ˜… (joking)
