Armbian team is maintaining optimised Linux operating system for single board computers based on the Debian family of operating systems. Armbian makes these devices functional on a new clean base and maintain their support to keep that. Most of those devices comes with barely working, closed source and not maintained firmwared.

Having a solid open source base allows users to incrementally replace quickly assembled and forgotten factory software with transparent open source alternative.
Everyone would like to code. It's fun! But when fun and excitement fades down, people move on, while code stays, bugs are waiting to be discovered. Maintaining build framework represent significant effort which most of the volunteers tries to avoid. We want to provide some compensation to the people that wants to dedicates some of his time daily to and work on various maintenance tasks. We are looking to raise some of the support maintainers costs this way.
