🔗Generative AI coding tools are powered by large language models (LLMs). Today’s state-of-the-art LLMs are transformers, which makes them adept at connecting tokens, big-picture thinking, and scaling. The results are coding and content suggestions that are contextually relevant.

🌐Generative AI coding tools are trained on large amounts of code across programming languages. They’re trained to process data like humans do—by recognizing patterns, making connections, and drawing inferences with limited guidance.

Mona is not the only Octocat, in fact, 100s of Octocats have been created in the last 15 years, along with their very own planet.

Why is Mona called Mona? Good question, here's her origin story, dreamt up by the 7 year old daughter of a GitHub developer.
Text says, Once upon a time, there was a cat who’s name was Monalisa. Monalisa and her owner went to the beach. When Monalisa got to the beach, her owner Kelly gave her goggles so Monalisa could swim and see what was in the ocean. When Monalisa went in the water she found lots of fish. When Monalisa was swimming she was so exited she opened her mouth and swouloed a coral that made you grow legs like a octapus but keep your normal face. So Monalisa grew legs and became Mrs. Monalisa octocat. [sic]

We (and Mona the Octocat) turned 15 this week. Mona originally started life as a stock image bought for our 404 page. Back then we never imagined she’d grow into the international developer superstar she is today. Take a look back at 15 years of Mona with us.
The original Octocat stock image - sad octocat standing in a puddle of water, cat head and octopus legs with tears or water coming off its whiskers.
The dapperoctocat - An Octocat wearing a brown suit with an astronaut helmet on its head.
A close up of Mona's face putting goggles on her eyes and looking serious.
