Today, we’re sharing details from the first phase of our platform-wide 2FA enrollment on GitHub, and how we’ve secured millions of developer accounts as part of our work to secure the software supply chain.🔒 The initial results? A 54% increase in 2FA usage among all active contributors on GitHub and nearly 1.4M passkeys registered on our platform. 🤯 And, we’ve also learned a lot along the way in our effort to help developers employ strong account security: 💥It’s possible to raise the bar for security significantly without negatively impacting your user’s experience. 💥Enabling 2FA at scale requires buy-in across your entire organization and champions to execute a phased approach that positively impacts the software ecosystem while also considering every impact on your users. 💥 Increasing 2FA adoption isn’t an insurmountable challenge. Platform providers are in the best position to make the largest impact to protect the software supply chain. While our efforts to ensure developers can be as secure as possible on GitHub don’t end here, we hope that by sharing our progress it inspires more organizations to implement similar requirements across their own platforms.
