Instructions for Domain Mapping

Custom URL

This guide is intended for those who have already purchased a custom domain name. If you have not yet purchased a custom domain, you will need to do so using a service like namecheap.com that provides DNS-server management. We have guides (below) for different domain choices and how to point each of them to your about.me page.

Step 1 - Create a CNAME Record

Log in to your domain registrar's site, and locate the Zone File Settings, DNS Manager or similar area of your control panel. Here you will create a CNAME record that points your domain to us. You'll generally see three fields:

Alias - Should be www

Type - Should be CNAME

Points To - Should be about.me

Step 2 - Create an A Record

Note: If you are using a subdomain, skip this step. Subdomains do not have A records.

Within that same Zone File or DNS Management area of your domain provider's interface, create an A Record which will point the version of your domain without the WWW to our IP Address (54.214.5.242).

Alias - Should be @ or the full domain yourdomain.com

Type - Should be A Record

Points To - Should be 54.214.5.242

Step 3 - Map Your Domain

After upgrading to a paid account, you can set your own webpage to point to your about.me page.

Enter your web address here:

Click Apply, and the change will save. That’s it!

Note: DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate across the entire internet.
